We wanted to use our cell phone again - instead of being used by it.
At some point we started noticing something.
We unlock our smartphone to quickly answer a message. A few minutes later we find ourselves in a feed - without even knowing why we opened it.
Minutes turn into hours. Every day.
We reduced screen time, turned off notifications and deleted apps. But sooner or later they were back. Because the problem wasn't that smartphones can't do enough. The problem was that they constantly want our attention.
So we asked ourselves:
What would a cell phone look like if it were designed to be put away?
This question arose from SORAM.
We wanted to bring back the simplicity of classic cell phones without sacrificing the benefits of modern technology. A cell phone with real buttons that feels deliberately different - but still enables WhatsApp, navigation, music and the apps that we really need in everyday life.
Don't go back to the past.
But a more conscious use of technology.
Because we don't think you have to be completely offline to get more out of real life. You should remain reachable, be able to do your things and then put your phone back in your pocket.
